Police Arrest Three for Falsifying JAMB Admission Letters

The police have apprehended three individuals involved in the falsification of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) admission letters. The suspects, identified as Effa Leonard Mpama, 34, Ibang Ernest Jerome, 38, and Eshiet Odotukana Benson, 38, are facing charges of Conspiracy, Computer-Related Forgery, and System Interference under the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.

In a statement released on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi detailed the operation. The suspects allegedly accessed JAMB’s Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) and e-facility to alter admission letters, securing illicit admissions and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilizations.

“The suspects conspired and procured services to illegally access JAMB’s restricted systems, altering and deleting genuine admission letters and inserting fake details,” Adejobi said. “Their actions compromised the entire JAMB admission process.”

Further investigation revealed the suspects collaborated with individuals still at large, including two operatives from JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT) Centers in Calabar, Cross River State. Digital forensic analysis led to the recovery of four fake domains and two principal threat actors in Imo State.

The police emphasized a stern warning against similar illegal activities. Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center for their work in the case, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to using technological advancements to protect Nigerian citizens.

The suspects will be charged to court following the conclusion of the investigation.
