The former State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Lagos State Chapter and the Leader of the Unity Freedom Group of the party in the state, Engr Adedeji Doherty has congratulated all women worldwide and indeed all women in the People’s Democratic Party as they mark International Women’s Day today.
The International Women’s Day is celebrated yearly on March 8 and the theme for this year’s celebration is “gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
In an interview at his Ikeja office, Engr Doherty stated that he has always being a strong advocate for equal opportunities for women into elective offices and also women empowerment.
He continued his advocacy for women empowerment, stating that more women should be encouraged to take up elective offices.
He frowned at the continued sidelining of women and wants more elective positions for women in the party and indeed in nationwide governance.
He congratulated all the women that were recently elected into different positions at the recent Lagos State PDP Congress, he stated that
“International Women’s Day, was set aside to recognise the achievements of women and promote the cause of gender equality”
He said “I hence recognise all the elected party women”.
He said, “I join the rest of the world to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, with the theme: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
“We should all continue to work towards creating opportunities and empowerment for our women.”
While once again congratulating all women, he seized the opportunity to campaign against rape, other sexual abuses and other gender vices as it applies to women.
He prayed that God would continue to empower all women to achieve their desired goals.
He wished them all a happy International Women’s Day.
