EndBadGovernance: Protesters Carted Away Ganduje’s Corruption Trial Documents – Gov Yusuf
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has reported that vital corruption trial documents involving former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have been seized by protesters. This incident occurred during widespread vandalism at the Kano State High Court amid the “End Bad Governance” protests, which were fueled by frustration over hunger and poverty in the country.
During an inspection of the damaged State High Court on Wednesday, Governor Yusuf, accompanied by key legal and judicial figures including the Attorney General Haruna Isah Dederi and Chief Registrar Abdullahi Ado Bayero, expressed his dismay at the loss of crucial case files. These documents pertained to the ongoing corruption charges against Ganduje, who currently serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press release issued by Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, the act of vandalism was characterized as a deliberate and orchestrated attempt to undermine the judicial process. The statement accused “enemies of Kano State” of employing hired miscreants to sabotage the integrity of the High Court and obstruct justice.
The Governor highlighted the extensive damage, noting that various units of the High Court, including the office of the Chief Judge, were destroyed. The financial loss is estimated at over one billion naira due to the theft of office equipment, the destruction of vehicles, and other critical assets.
Governor Yusuf appealed to the youth of Kano State to avoid being manipulated into violence and instead focus on skill development for a promising future. He assured the public of his commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of Kano residents.
Furthermore, Governor Yusuf vowed to protect the judiciary, emphasizing its role as the last bastion of justice for the common man. He ordered the immediate restoration of the High Court and the reinforcement of security measures to ensure the continuity of justice. He also extended his condolences to Chief Judge Dije Abdu Aboki and the judiciary, encouraging them to persevere in upholding justice despite the setbacks.
