Emefiele’s Presidential bid suffers set back
A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused the request of Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), from stopping him in the pursuit of his presidential bid.
The current Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria had asked the court to declare him eligible to participate in the 2023 presidential election.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/610/2022 and filed on May 5, Mr Emefiele had approached the court through his counsel Mike Ozekhome, arguing that he will suffer “irreparable damage” unless immediately granted a leave to engage in partisan politics while in office as the head of the country’s financial sector regulator.
The matter was adjourned till May 12 for the defendants to file their respective responses to Mr Emefiele.
