Eight Secondary School Students Arrested Over Alleged Cult Activities
Eight students from Ifo High School have been arrested for their alleged involvement in cult-related activities. The arrests were confirmed by the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, following a report from the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Alako Oluwole, and a teacher, Mr. Akinseku Oloruntoba Julius.
The incident occurred on March 21, 2025, when school authorities raised the alarm over a group of students causing disturbances and extorting valuables from their peers. Acting on the report, officers from the Ifo Divisional Police Division moved in and apprehended the students within the school premises.
Initial investigations revealed that the students are believed to be members of a cult group known as “Future Guys,” allegedly initiated by two senior students. The police have withheld the names of the students but confirmed that they would undergo thorough screening.
A detailed investigation is underway to determine the extent of the group’s activities and to curb the spread of cultism in schools. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has directed that the students be brought before him for further questioning, adding that they would also be referred for counseling and mentoring.
Ogunlowo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to restoring discipline and safety in schools, urging parents, educators, and community leaders to join efforts in tackling cultism among young people.
