EFCC Chairman Orders Probe into Bobrisky’s ₦15 Million Bribery Allegation Against Officers
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations of bribery made by Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, against officers of the Commission.
In a viral video shared by social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Okuneye accused unnamed EFCC officials of collecting ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. The video, which has been widely circulated across various platforms, alleges that the officers demanded and received the sum in exchange for halting legal proceedings against Okuneye.
Reacting swiftly to these claims, Mr. Olukoyede has set up a dedicated team to probe the accusations. In an official statement released by the EFCC on September 24, 2024, Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed the investigation: “The Executive Chairman has constituted a team of investigators to critically look into the allegations.”
The EFCC further called on both Okuneye and Otse to present themselves at its Lagos Directorate to provide any relevant information that could assist in the investigation. “The Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery,” the statement read.
The EFCC emphasized its unwavering commitment to integrity, professionalism, and transparency in all its dealings. According to the Commission, the outcome of the investigation will be made public once concluded. “The allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the result of the findings made public accordingly,” Oyewale assured.
