EFCC Arrests 44 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Anambra, Enugu
The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 44 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud across various locations in Anambra and Enugu States.
The arrests took place in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29, 2024, following actionable intelligence that linked the suspects to online criminal activities.
According to the EFCC, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects exploited social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook, to deceive unsuspecting victims. Some of those arrested were reportedly engaged in using fake identities to lure foreign nationals into romantic relationships for fraudulent purposes. Additionally, investigators discovered that several suspects possessed fraudulent documents on their devices.
The operation resulted in the recovery of laptops and various brands of sophisticated mobile phones. The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged in court once the investigations are finalized.
