Edo: “We Will Defend Our Votes with Our Blood” – PDP Chairman, Illiya Damagum
In a fiery statement ahead of the Edo State governorship election, Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Illiya Damagum, declared that party members are prepared to defend their votes “with their blood.” The election, scheduled for September 21, 2024, has drawn significant attention amid rising political tension.
Speaking at the grand finale of the PDP campaign rally in Edo, Damagum expressed the party’s commitment to safeguarding the election process, while issuing a stern warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any manipulation or midnight announcement of results.
“We will be vigilant and ensure that no rigging takes place,” Damagum stated, emphasizing that the PDP is prepared to protect the integrity of the election. He described the Edo poll as a crucial test for Nigeria’s democracy, warning that any attempts to compromise the election could lead to unrest.
Damagum’s remarks were echoed by Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council. Fintiri assured supporters that the PDP would not allow any manipulation of the electoral process, urging the people of Edo to vote for the party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
“Edo is the cradle of civilization and intellectualism in Nigeria, and its citizens must not settle for anything less. Vote for Ighodalo and ensure the progress of this great state,” Fintiri urged the crowd.
PDP’s candidate, Ighodalo, also vowed to build on the achievements of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, promising continued development for the state. In addition, former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in 2023, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, called on voters to actively protect and defend their votes, asserting that PDP’s victory is essential for the future of Edo.
