Edo PDP Expels Former Deputy Governor Shaibu, Two Others for Anti-Party Activities

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced on Wednesday the expulsion of former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu. Alongside Shaibu, the party also expelled the National Vice Chairman (South-South) Dan Orbih and Omorgie Ihama, a former House of Representatives member for Oredo Federal Constituency, citing anti-party activities as the reason for their removal.

The decision was conveyed in a statement released in Benin by the party’s state publicity secretary, Ogie Vasco. According to Vasco, the expulsion was the outcome of a meeting held by nine members of the state working committee at the PDP secretariat.

“The SWC has extensively deliberated on the issue and resolved to expel, with immediate effect, Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman South-South. It also decided to expel Philip Shaibu and upheld the expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama from Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area,” Vasco stated.

In response, Dan Orbih criticized the decision, claiming the state working committee lacked the authority to expel members of the national working committee or any party members without adhering to the party’s constitutional procedures.

“When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows their ignorance of the party’s constitution. That is all I have to say about that and nothing more,” Orbih told journalists.
