“Edo Election Victory Reflects Nigerians’ Confidence in Tinubu” – Senate President Akpabio
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has hailed the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo State governorship election, describing it as a testament to the trust Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Akpabio expressed confidence in the leadership of the president following the declaration of Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate, as the winner of the election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Okpebholo’s win after the election, held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
“The outcome of this election, despite initial tensions, clearly shows that Nigerians are standing firmly behind President Tinubu’s leadership,” Akpabio stated.
According to the official results declared by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Okpebholo secured victory by winning 11 local government areas, while his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won in 7 local government areas. Labour Party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, did not win in any local government area.
Okpebholo garnered a total of 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo, who received 247,274 votes, and Akpata, who managed 18,737 votes.
