All Efforts to Intimidate, Silence Organized Labour Will Fail — NLC President Joe Ajaero

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has asserted that attempts to silence organized labor will not succeed. He announced plans to honor a police invitation on Wednesday, September 25, amid increased scrutiny from security agencies.

Speaking to union officials and workers in Lagos, Ajaero condemned recent arrests as attempts to intimidate the labor movement. “We have kept faith alive despite efforts to find wrongdoing. Our strength lies in our integrity and unity,” he stated.

Ajaero emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong and untainted collective spirit, asserting, “They can imprison our bodies, but they cannot imprison our spirit.” He called for vigilance and unity as the NLC prepares for upcoming challenges.

He also expressed gratitude to international organizations that have supported the NLC during its recent struggles, including the International Labour Organization and various global trade unions. Ajaero thanked them for condemning governmental actions against the labor movement, stating, “We remain profoundly grateful for your solidarity.”
