Edo APC Endorses Gov. Okpebholo’s Stance on Obi’s Visit Clearance, Gives Reason

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s stance requiring former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to seek clearance from the state government before visiting Edo. The state APC chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, made this known on Saturday during the formal presentation of Hon. Joseph Ikpea and Hon. Omosede Igbinedion as the party’s senatorial and House of Representatives candidates for Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency, respectively.

Tenebe defended the governor’s position, stating that Obi’s previous visit to Edo was marred by violence, with three people reportedly killed. He noted that the governor’s caution was informed by security concerns and public sentiment. The chairman also emphasized that the APC would run a vigorous campaign ahead of the 2024 governorship election, aiming to prove that it was the legitimate winner of the previous poll.

“We will campaign as if we’ve never won an election in this state,” Tenebe said, asserting that the APC’s efforts would reaffirm its strength and popularity among Edo voters.

Meanwhile, Ugboaja Stanley Uzoamaka, chairman and chief returning officer of the APC Edo Central Primary Election Committee, confirmed that primary elections were successfully conducted across 51 wards in five local government areas. He announced that Hon. Ikpea emerged winner with the affirmation of 255 delegates from the zone. In the Ovia Federal Constituency, Barr. Lucky Ajokperiniovo announced that Hon. Igbinedion was declared the candidate following the withdrawal of other aspirants.
