Edo 2024: Davido Endorses PDP’s Ighodalo at Wedding Ceremony
In a high-profile public endorsement, Nigerian music superstar Davido has thrown his support behind Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election on September 21. The endorsement took place during Davido’s wedding ceremony, attended by notable figures, including Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Eyewitnesses and a viral video from the event captured Davido’s endorsement, where he proclaimed, “Asue is the man to beat,” and pledged his full support for the PDP candidate.
Davido’s endorsement carries significant weight, given his deep roots in Edo State. His mother, Veronica Imade Adeleke, was born in Benin City, strengthening his connection to the region.
The endorsement is expected to positively impact Ighodalo’s campaign, particularly among the youth, a crucial voting demographic in Edo State. Erabor Emokpae, head of Asue’s media organization, expressed optimism, highlighting the potential boom in the state’s creative industry under Ighodalo’s leadership, a sector where Davido and many other notable artists from Edo State play key roles.
In his campaign manifesto, “My Covenant with Edo People,” Ighodalo has committed to significant investments in the creative industry, aligning with Davido’s vision for the state’s future. This shared commitment further solidifies the endorsement’s significance, promising a transformative era for Edo State’s creative sector.
