Ebonyi Lawmaker Defects from Labour Party to APC
Celestine Ogba, a member of the Ebonyi House of Assembly representing Onicha East under the Labour Party (LP), has announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr. Ogba made this announcement during a ceremony held at the state APC secretariat in Abakaliki, where he was welcomed by party leaders. Expressing his satisfaction with rejoining his former party, Ogba highlighted his long-standing connection with the APC.
“The APC is the largest political party in the country and Africa, with many influential members. I am happy to join them in building blocks that will translate into delivering democratic dividends to the people,” Ogba said. He emphasized the importance of ideologies that transform lives and praised the state governor’s people-oriented administration.
Ogba stated that his defection was in the best interest of his constituency, aiming to contribute to their progress and avoid hindering their development. He stressed the need for unity and peaceful claim to their rights, noting that he had brought along all Labour Party stakeholders from his constituency.
The state APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, lauded Ogba’s defection, describing it as a significant gain for the party. “Catching a big fish like Ogba is a great achievement. We seek the best minds to elevate our state’s national standing and improve our people’s well-being,” Okoro-Emegha remarked, expressing his long-held respect for Ogba despite their past political differences.
He also mentioned that the party is strengthening its base and that the impact of their efforts will be evident in future elections, aiming for unopposed victories.
The defection marks a continued trend of opposition members in Ebonyi State joining the APC, steadily weakening the ranks of other parties.
