Eagles Shuffle Line-Up as Onyeka and Ajayi Return for DR Congo Showdown
Nigeria’s preparations for the decisive Africa playoffs final against DR Congo have taken a slight turn after head coach Eric Chele confirmed two changes to his line-up for Sunday’s clash. Adam Akor, who opened the scoring in the 4–1 win over Gabon, and Bright Osayi-Samuel drop to the bench as Chele reshapes his side for the high-stakes encounter.
Frank Onyeka and Semi Ajayi return to the starting team. Ajayi partners Calvin Bassey at centre-back, while Onyeka joins Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi in midfield. The adjustments also see Benjamin Fredrick move to right-back, with Zaidu Sanusi operating on the left. Stanley Nwabali retains his place in goal.
Victor Osimhen leads the attack once again, supported by Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze on the wings as Nigeria look to secure a spot in next year’s intercontinental playoff for the 2026 World Cup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Nigerian time.
Starting XI: Stanley Nwabali, Benjamin Fredrick, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi; Wilfred Ndidi (C), Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen.
