DSS Arrests Alleged ESN Leader, Suspected IPOB Member in Enugu

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Sabastine Odo Odam, allegedly a commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), along with Ejike Daniel, a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The arrests took place on Friday, March 6, following coordinated operations in the Eha-Amufu and Umuhu communities of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Enugu State. DSS officials said the operation was the result of months of intelligence gathering on the suspects’ activities.

Authorities linked the suspects to a series of violent attacks on police formations and security personnel in Isi-Uzo LGA between 2024 and 2026. Investigations suggest they were involved in multiple assaults on police stations, during which firearms and other weapons were stolen. Among the incidents cited are the February 26 killing of 11 labourers and the deaths of five police officers between December 24, 2025, and January 26, 2026.

DSS described the operation as a key development in efforts to reduce violent activity in the South-East and strengthen national security. Residents of Isi-Uzo LGA have welcomed the arrests, expressing hope that the move will help restore stability in affected communities.

Both suspects remain in DSS custody and will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of investigations.
