Drama Unfolds as Man Allegedly Trapped in Abuja Farm with Stolen Yams

In a bizarre turn of events, a man was reportedly “trapped” on a farm in the Bar-Bari community, Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after attempting to steal yam tubers.

According to a local resident, Joshua Gwatana, the incident occurred on Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. The suspect allegedly entered the farm intending to steal yams but was found sitting beside several harvested tubers, seemingly unable to leave the scene.

The farm owner, who had been experiencing frequent thefts of his crops, had raised alarms in the past about the issue. Upon discovering the suspect immobilized, the farmer immediately alerted the community.

Local youths quickly mobilized, stripping the suspect half-naked before handing him over to the vigilante group. It is believed that the farmer had placed charms on his farm to protect his crops, which may have played a role in the suspect’s inability to escape with the stolen yams.

This incident highlights a growing concern in rural areas of the FCT, where theft of farm produce, especially maize and yams, has been on the rise.

Attempts to reach Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, for comments on the incident were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
