The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has declared that event centers and non-residential properties in Ikeja GRA are deemed illegal structures. The LASPPPA General Manager, Kehinde Osinaike, emphasized that Ikeja GRA is exclusively designated for residential purposes under the Revised Ikeja Model City Plan.
Osinaike clarified the agency’s mandate to permit only residential developments in the area, citing the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019, and LASPPPA Regulations 2019. He addressed a developer’s claim that LASPPPA sealed an event center construction site for personal reasons, labeling it as baseless.
Highlighting the significance of the government’s investment in Master and Model City Plans for orderly development, Osinaike underscored the commitment to enforcing planning laws. Regardless of individuals’ status, he warned of penalties such as sealing, demolition, and other severe measures for those disregarding regulations.
Expressing a vision for a livable, organized, and orderly built environment in Lagos State, Osinaike urged developers eyeing event centers in Ikeja GRA to explore permissible sites elsewhere. He called on property owners to respect the government’s zero tolerance for illegal developments and encouraged the use of the Planning Information service for proper site selection.
Osinaike concluded by advocating for a collective commitment to obeying the law and building rights, fostering true development aligned with public interest rather than engaging in blame games or blackmail.
