Delta Police Officer Details How 17-Year-Old Student Allegedly Hacked Celebrity WhatsApp Accounts, Sold Explicit Content to Peers
A Divisional Police Officer in Delta State has given account of how a 17-year-old secondary school student was allegedly found to have hacked into WhatsApp accounts linked to some celebrities and distributed explicit materials to fellow students for payment.
The Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area, Temi Agbede-Zuokumor, shared the details during an interview with comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, known as I Go Save.
She explained that the case came to light after officers conducted a routine inspection involving a student’s mobile phone. According to her, initial attempts by the student’s mother to account for the device raised suspicion, as she claimed it belonged to another child in the family.
Agbede-Zuokumor said the explanation did not align with what officers observed, prompting a closer review of the device.
“When we checked the phone, we found that everything on it belonged to the boy,” she said.
She noted that the device contained a large number of foreign contacts, including over 80 Australian numbers, along with a substantial amount of explicit material.
Further findings, according to her, indicated that the student allegedly engaged classmates in transactions involving the sale of such materials, with some students reportedly referring to him as “boss.”
Investigators also reportedly discovered that the teenager had gained unauthorized access to WhatsApp accounts belonging to some celebrities and used them to contact individuals and request money from unsuspecting victims.
Authorities say the matter is still under investigation.
