Defection: “One of Peter Obi’s Handlers Is With Us, Another in Talks” – Presidency
The Presidency has hinted at a possible defection of key members from the camp of Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a recent television interview, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala, claimed that some of Obi’s close aides and handlers are already aligning with the APC.
Bwala asserted that one of Obi’s key handlers has already joined the ruling party, while another is currently engaged in discussions with APC leadership. He also disclosed that one of Obi’s media aides has expressed interest in making the switch.
“Governors are on their own coming into our party. What about the key managers of specific presidential candidates of the last election?” Bwala said. “Take, for example, Peter Obi. One of his handlers is with us. The second handler is in talks with us. One of his media spokesmen is in talks with us.”
Bwala emphasized that the defections are not being driven by financial incentives but by what he described as a growing belief in the current administration’s direction. “Nobody is giving anybody kobo, but because they realise, we are not perfect as a government, but our hearts are right, our head is correct, and we are creating a national consensus,” he stated.
