Death Row Inmate Escapes from Yobe Maximum Security Prison
A death row inmate, identified as Abba Hassan, has escaped from the Yobe Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum during the early hours of Friday, October 31, 2025. The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, who revealed that the fugitive hails from Maiduguri in Borno State.
The police have urged residents of Yobe and neighbouring states to remain alert and report any information that could lead to Hassan’s re-arrest. Security agencies, transport operators, community leaders, and vigilante groups have also been advised to exercise vigilance and cooperate fully with law enforcement officers.
Abdulkarim cautioned members of the public against attempting to confront or apprehend the escapee on their own, emphasizing that anyone who spots him should immediately report to the nearest police station, correctional service facility, or contact the police emergency line on 08038452982.
He assured that security operatives are working closely to ensure public safety and the prompt recapture of the escaped inmate.
