Davido Announces Retirement from Music

Renowned Afrobeats sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has announced his retirement from the music industry following the release of his upcoming album.

The decision, revealed on Thursday night via his social media platform, comes amidst a storm of controversy sparked by allegedly manipulated images and videos circulating online.

Addressing the mounting pressure and scrutiny, Davido expressed his frustration, stating, “Yall niggas really want me out the game that bad ?? Oya after next album I no do again. So una fit get peace.”

This declaration arrives on the heels of Davido’s assertion that many of his peers in the music industry have not found peace during their careers.

The announcement follows the release of the visuals for “Kante,” the final offering from his fourth studio album, “Timeless,” signaling the end of an era for the acclaimed artist.

“Kante,” the tenth track from “Timeless,” garnered widespread acclaim and contributed to Davido’s Grammy-nominated album, which hit the airwaves in March 2023.

Looking ahead, Davido expressed eagerness for a new chapter filled with fresh music and unprecedented achievements.

Davido’s rise to stardom began with his breakout hit, “Dami Duro,” in 2012, under the HKN Music label. In 2016, he founded his own music imprint, DMW, serving as a platform for emerging talents such as Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Dremo.

Earlier this year, Davido revamped his label, unveiling DMW 2.0 and introducing two new artists, Morravey and Logos Olori, into the fold.

Despite his decision to step away from music, Davido’s legacy remains intact, highlighted by his historic Grammy Awards nomination in 2023. While he ultimately fell short of victory in the “Best Global Album” and “Best Global Music Performance” categories, his impact on the global music landscape endures.
