Crackdown Continues: Yobe Hisbah Burns Seized Alcohol, Reaffirms State Ban

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed 243 cartons of alcoholic beverages seized during a recent raid at Maina Lodge in Damaturu, reinforcing its ongoing campaign against the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state. The destruction exercise took place in the state capital on Thursday and was led by the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, in the presence of security operatives, government officials, and members of the public.

Dr. Yahuza stated that the confiscated alcohol—comprising multiple brands and types—was destroyed in line with Yobe’s religious and legal prohibitions against intoxicants. He emphasized that the sale, consumption, and distribution of alcohol remain banned under state laws and Islamic principles, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to enforcing moral discipline and safeguarding public order.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his continued support, attributing the Commission’s operational success to the governor’s backing and leadership. In a related effort, the Local Government Hisbah Unit in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area, also destroyed 17 cartons of alcohol, further signaling the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance across all parts of the state.

Dr. Yahuza called on residents to remain alert and report any illicit activities, including the illegal sale or possession of alcohol, to authorities for prompt action. The Commission reiterated its dedication to upholding religious values, promoting public morality, and ensuring compliance with state laws in all communities.
