Hisbah Bans Private Conversations, Physical Interaction Between Men and Women in Commercial Vehicles

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has announced a directive prohibiting physical interaction and private conversations between men and women in commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and at public gatherings, citing that such activities are contrary to Sharia teachings.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from the office of the State Commander of the Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale, with the approval of the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar.

According to the statement, the Commission is particularly concerned about:

* Reckless movement in vehicles, especially during weddings, Sallah, and other public celebrations.

* Physical contact between men and women in commercial tricycles (Keke Napep), motorcycles, or at public events.

* Private conversations between opposite genders in ways deemed inconsistent with Sharia principles.

The Hisbah Commission emphasized that the directive aims to preserve public morality and maintain order in both commercial transport and social settings.

The statement also called on parents and community leaders to cooperate with the Commission in enforcing the directive, noting that such measures are intended to support the moral upbringing of children and ensure compliance with Sharia values.

The Commission warned that failure to adhere to these guidelines could attract appropriate sanctions under the regulations governing Hisbah operations in the state.
