Court Remands 56-Year-Old Teacher for Beating Young Man to Death in Ondo
A 51-year-old school teacher, Gbogidi Ojo Williams, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beating a young man to death in Ondo State. Williams was arraigned by the Ondo State Police Command over the death of Abayomi Olamitoke, who was reportedly attacked on September 16, 2025, at Akunmi Quarters, Akungba-Akoko.
Police prosecutor Taiwo Oniyere told the court that the defendant, along with others still at large, conspired to commit murder and inflicted fatal injuries on the victim. The charge states that Williams and his accomplices beat Olamitoke to death, an offence said to contravene Sections 324 and 316, and punishable under Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Code.
The court did not take Williams’s plea. The prosecutor asked that the defendant be remanded pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, while defence counsel Benjamin Adeyanju sought time to file a counter-affidavit.
Presiding Magistrate Odenusi-Fadeyi Olateju ordered that Williams be remanded at the State Police Criminal Investigation Department and adjourned the case until October 7 for further he aring.
