Court Proceedings Heat Up as Plateau State High Court Remands Suspects in Organ Harvesting Allegations
The Plateau State High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Nankwat Dawat Shashe’et, has remanded two individuals, Noah Kekere and Yusuf Abdullahi, in connection with an alleged organ harvesting case. The accused are charged with the removal of Ibrahim Ejibade’s left kidney in 2019.
This development comes merely a month after the same suspects faced remand by Justice D.G Fombing for their alleged involvement in the kidney harvest of Mrs Khende Kamaru in 2018.
The recent charges were brought before the court by Andrew Yilnaan, Assistant Chief Council with the state Ministry of Justice, accusing the defendants of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, causing grievous harm, and the illicit removal, sale, and trafficking of Ibrahim Ejibade’s kidney.
Mr. Kekere, arrested for alleged kidney harvesting at his Murna Clinic and Maternity in the Yanshanu community of Jos North local government area, pleaded not guilty alongside Yusuf Abdullahi.
The defense, represented by Barr. E. A. Achoba, argued for bail, asserting that the offenses were bailable and emphasizing the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The prosecution countered, emphasizing the gravity of the charges.
Justice Shashe’et, after hearing both sides, decided to remand the suspects, reserving a date for ruling on the bail application. This case adds another layer to the ongoing investigation into organ harvesting activities, raising concerns about the extent of such practices in the state.
