Court orders Orji Kalu’s release from prison custody
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the release of the former governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Justice Mohammed Liman ordered Senator Kalu’s release on Tuesday morning after listening to an application filed by the former governor.
Kalu was not released from jail despite a supreme court ruling declaring his trial void a few weeks ago but his co defendant was released having been able to secure a release document.
The EFCC counsel Rotimi Jacobs did not oppose the process as it said the supreme court had ordered a fresh trial.
