Court bars Wike, FCTA from enforcing Maitama land revocation
A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has restrained Nyesom Wike, minister of the FCT, and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from enforcing the revocation of a disputed land in Maitama District, Abuja.
In an interim order issued on December 22, 2025, Justice Bello Kawu barred Wike, the FCTA and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) from acting on a revocation notice affecting Park No. 2008, Cadastral Zone A06, Maitama.
The order followed an ex parte application filed by Nanet Hotels Limited, the claimant in suit number FCT/HC/M/17103/2025, which is challenging the revocation of the land.
Justice Kawu held that the defendants must not “give effect to, act upon, enforce, implement or take any step whatsoever” based on the revocation letter dated July 7, 2025, which the claimant said was received on September 24, 2025, pending the hearing of the motion on notice.
The court also restrained the defendants from ejecting, harassing, intimidating, sealing, demolishing, reallocating or otherwise interfering with Nanet Hotels Limited’s possession and occupation of the property.
In addition, the judge directed the inspector-general of police and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to refrain from enforcing the disputed revocation or providing security support for any eviction or disturbance related to the land.
All parties were ordered to maintain the status quo as of the date the application was filed.
“The application is hereby granted; order made as prayed,” the judge ruled.
Following the court order, Nanet Hotels Limited, through its solicitors, Ojukwu Chikaosolu & Co., issued a public notice warning politicians, public officeholders, developers and investors to stay away from the disputed land.
In the notice dated January 20, 2026, the firm cautioned governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers, political appointees, developers, investors and members of the public against transacting on any land “situated at, upon, or derived from Park No. 2008, Cadastral Zone A06, Maitama District, Abuja.”
The solicitors stated that the matter is the subject of a pending suit before the FCT High Court and that valid interim orders remain in force.
They stressed that no individual, authority or agency has the legal right to allocate, sell, transfer, mortgage, lease, develop or otherwise deal with the land.
The firm warned that anyone who proceeds to transact on the property does so at their own risk and will be deemed to have full notice of the ongoing litigation and subsisting court orders.
