Controversy Surrounds Tinubu’s Christmas Palliatives Distribution to Lawmakers

Confusion looms over the distribution of Christmas palliatives by President Bola Tinubu to members of the National Assembly (NASS) for their constituencies. Discrepancies between reported funds and actual palliatives have sparked a clash of statements from lawmakers and their constituents.

According to Akin Rotimi, Spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, legislators received palliatives, not direct funds from President Tinubu. He emphasized that these items came through the Ministry of Agriculture, deepening the controversy.

Contrarily, a presidential aide, Segun Dada, asserted that Senators and House of Representatives members received funds – N200 million for Senators and N100 million for House members. Some lawmakers, however, deny receiving any monetary or gift aid for their constituents, adding another layer to the conflicting narratives.

Investigations across constituencies revealed varying accounts. In Borno and Yobe states, residents stated they did not receive palliatives from lawmakers. Some federal lawmakers, speaking anonymously, claimed that promises were made, but no tangible support was provided.

In Imo State, residents expressed unawareness of any Christmas palliatives from President Tinubu. Kwara State witnessed disparities, with only two out of three senators distributing palliatives. The source and nature of these items remain unclear.

Ondo State residents and legislators shared similar sentiments, denying the reception of food items or Christmas palliatives from their representatives. In Oyo State, residents reported not receiving anything, expressing skepticism about legislators’ intentions.

Osun State witnessed a lack of palliative distribution by most lawmakers. Constituents, like Adedayo Adedeji, challenged their representatives to clarify the situation surrounding the alleged palliatives.

As the controversy deepens, clarity is sought on the actual nature and distribution of the Christmas palliatives amidst conflicting statements from lawmakers and their constituencies.
