Commotion as Policemen Shoot Sporadically into the Air to Disperse FCT COVID-19 Mobile Court After Colleagues Were Arrested For Violating Protocols
There was commotion yesterday in Dei-Dei area in the outskirts of Abuja as uniformed policemen shot sporadically into the air to disperse the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mobile Court trying violators of the COVID-19 safety protocols in the area.
Trouble according to eyewitnesses started when a policeman, Agada Gabriel, was arrested by the FCT Ministerial Joint Enforcement Task Team on COVID-19 Restrictions for not wearing face mask and overloading his Volkswagen Golf car with passengers. Agada, called his colleague, Smart Jacob, for assistance but was also arrested and charged for similar offences by the mobile court. The duo refused to pay the fines instead mobilized their colleagues from the nearby Mobile Police Barracks at Dei-Dei who stormed the venue shooting sporadically into the air sending everyone including the Magistrate, Theresa Otu, and other members of the Task Force scampering for safety.
The Policemen dismantled the canopy used by the mobile court and vowed not to allow anymore Court sittings in the area.
