Commercial Bus Driver Dies While Driving Near University of Ilorin

A commercial bus driver identified as Lukman collapsed while transporting students to the University of Ilorin, leaving passengers in shock.

The event, which took place on Friday, was recounted by a witness in a widely circulated WhatsApp message. The witness, who managed to take control of the bus, described how the driver suddenly slumped while en route from Sanrab to Unilorin.

“I was sitting in the front, engrossed in reading the Qur’an on my phone, when the person beside me alerted me to the driver’s condition,” the witness stated. “He was gasping for breath, and the bus was veering off the road. I had to intervene, applying the brakes and steering the vehicle to safety.”

Tragically, despite efforts to save him, the driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at the school clinic. The swift turn of events unfolded within a mere 30 minutes.

Sulyman Malik, a colleague of the deceased, expressed shock over the sudden demise, reflecting on a recent conversation they had shared. “He greeted me just the day before about my own accident. This incident reminds us of the fleeting nature of life,” Malik remarked somberly. The deceased was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs.

Responding to inquiries, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Director of Information at the University of Ilorin, confirmed the unfortunate incident, expressing condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
