Erection Beyond 30 Minutes After Intercourse is Dangerous – University Don

Prof. Ademola Popoola, a lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ilorin, has issued a cautionary statement highlighting the potential dangers associated with erections lasting more than 30 minutes after intercourse.

Speaking at the university’s 250th Inaugural Lecture titled “That All May Pee in Peace,” Prof. Popoola emphasized the purposelessness and harm in prolonged erections, urging individuals experiencing such instances to seek immediate medical attention.

According to the professor, the necessity to preserve penile erection calls for prompt intervention by a competent doctor to prevent potential complications. He noted that research indicates a higher likelihood of fractures or breaks on the right side of the penis during extended periods of erection.

In addition to discussing male sexual health, Prof. Popoola addressed challenges related to urination, emphasizing the importance of addressing issues promptly to avoid severe consequences. He identified various causes of urination challenges in women, including abnormal uterine shifting, urethrocele, and uncommon factors such as perforation ovarian teratoma and anteverted uterus.

The expert warned against dismissing concerns related to blood in the urine, stressing the need for immediate investigation and treatment within a week or two of presentation to the hospital. Prof. Popoola called for comprehensive care for patients with urological malignancies, advocating for coverage by the National Health Insurance Authority.

Furthermore, he urged the Federal Government to allocate research funding to address genitourinary problems, including kidney failure. Prof. Popoola’s insights underscore the significance of proactive measures and comprehensive healthcare in addressing various aspects of urological health.
