Civil Defence Apprehends Nine for Producing Pillows with Used Diapers, Sanitary Pads
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended nine individuals in Sokoto for the production and sale of pillows containing used diapers and sanitary pads.
The arrests were made public at the NSCDC state command’s headquarters on Wednesday, according to a statement by the state’s commandant, Bello Alkali Argungun. He disclosed that the accused had engaged small children to collect discarded items, which were then used to fill pillowcases. The finished products were sold to unsuspecting customers, featuring logos from reputable foam companies to deceive buyers.
Expressing concern over the potential health risks, Mr. Argungun cautioned prospective buyers, stating, “They may contract some diseases without knowing the cause. I am appealing to our people to always go for businesses that are legitimate.”
The NSCDC assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and upon its conclusion, the suspects will face legal consequences as they are set to be charged in court. This shocking incident highlights the importance of vigilance and the need for consumers to verify the legitimacy of products before making purchases.
