Chekwas Okorie Emerges APGA Board of Trustees Chairman

Chief Chekwas Okorie, the founder and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has officially accepted the role of Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees. Okorie made the announcement during a speech in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing his longstanding commitment and sacrifices for the party.

Reflecting on his decision not to run as APGA’s first presidential candidate in 2002, Okorie highlighted his choice to support the late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu instead. “It is with humility and honour that I accept to serve in the exalted and prestigious office of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as Chairman,” Okorie stated, attributing his appointment to divine providence and the unanimous support from the National Working Committee (NWC) of APGA, led by National Chairman Chief Edozie Njoku.

Okorie reminisced about APGA’s registration by INEC in 2002, recalling his decision to forgo personal ambition in favor of presenting Ojukwu as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2003 election. He noted, “It is a fact of Nigeria’s political history that I became the first Nigerian to found a political party without using it to contest for president or any elective office.”

Despite enduring years of “betrayals, persecution, humiliation, malicious allegations, and vicious attacks,” Okorie expressed gratitude for being honored by the current APGA leadership. He praised Chief Edozie Njoku, describing him as a dedicated and courageous leader who embodies the original vision of APGA.

Concluding his speech, Okorie assured Njoku of his full support and solidarity, emphasizing the divine hand guiding the party’s leadership.
