A gang of suspected carjackers has reportedly abandoned one of their own after a daring robbery in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State. The incident, which unfolded on Monday, caught the attention of social media users as a video circulated, showcasing the criminals’ haste to escape.
The footage captured the armed robbers forcibly taking possession of a vehicle from an individual. However, in their frantic attempt to evade authorities, they hastily drove away, leaving a bewildered gang member behind, who had no choice but to chase after them on foot.
Ihiala, already known for being a hotspot for criminal activity and targeted attacks, has been grappling with insurgency-related issues.
A local source who witnessed the incident shared details, saying, “This happened yesterday (Monday). In a bid to make a quick escape, the men left one of their members behind after snatching a car in Uli, Anambra State.”
Surprisingly, the Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed unawareness of this development. He stated, “We call on the originator of this video to reach out to the command for us to know the exact location that happened in Uli, as there is no such report before the police in the area.”
DSP Ikenga continued by urging community members to come forward with information about incidents in their locality, emphasizing the importance of cooperation. He provided a dedicated contact number, 07039194332, for individuals to provide any relevant information, assuring them of the utmost confidentiality regarding their calls.
