CAC Introduces New Mandatory Details for Business Name Online Updates
The Corporate Affairs Commission has rolled out new compulsory requirements for all business name online update requests, a move it says will take effect immediately.
In a notice posted on its X account on Wednesday, the commission announced that applicants must now submit additional personal and contact information to boost verification procedures and improve the accuracy of business records. The new guidelines require every update request to include the proprietor’s date of birth, a registered office email, the proprietor’s email address, a phone number for either the registered office or proprietor, and a valid form of identification.
The CAC said the changes form part of broader reforms designed to strengthen documentation integrity, curb fraudulent practices, and improve communication with business owners. By collecting more comprehensive details, the commission aims to streamline its database, simplify compliance checks, and deliver more secure and efficient services to entrepreneurs.
Business proprietors were advised to follow the new rules to avoid delays in processing their applications. The commission, which oversees the registration and regulation of companies and business names in Nigeria, has been steadily modernising its operations in recent years, shifting from manual processes to digital platforms to make registration and updates easier for users nationwide.
