Buhari Reacts to Supreme Court Judgement Affirming Tinubu’s Victory
Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has praised the recent ruling by the Supreme Court in favour of President Bola Tinubu, urging the opposition to join forces with the nation’s leader.
The endorsement came through a statement issued by Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, immediately following the apex court’s dismissal of appeals by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“After an arduous and costly legal journey spanning eight months, we have reached the final destination. The nation now deserves a respite. The opposition has put up a commendable fight. Having exhausted their constitutional rights, they should embrace the hand of cooperation extended by the Tinubu/Shettima and the APC government,” Buhari stated in the release.
Buhari further emphasized that the verdict was a source of relief for him and the majority of Nigerians. He viewed it as a “reaffirmation of the will of the majority of the people against the determined will of a resolute minority.”
However, he expressed concern about the low voter turnout across the country, particularly in urban areas, and called for change, given Nigeria’s growing acceptance and enthusiasm for democracy.
In closing, Buhari conveyed his best wishes to President Tinubu and his administration for a successful term in office, as conveyed in Garba Shehu’s statement.
