Bride, Brother-in-law, 11 Others including Five Bridesmaids Perish in Heartbreaking Niger Car Crash
In a devastating incident on Friday evening, a newly wedded bride, her brother-in-law, and five bridesmaids lost their lives along with six others in a fatal motor accident near the Lukoro area in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State.
Reports indicate that the ill-fated vehicle, carrying the late bride, lost control due to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking, ultimately colliding with an incoming vehicle. An eyewitness account revealed that out of the 20 individuals involved in the accident, 13 tragically lost their lives, while seven others sustained critical injuries.
The other vehicle involved was identified as a commercial Nissan bus en route from Minna to Ogbomosho, Oyo State. Tsukwan Kumar, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the incident, stating, “The crash involved two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla conveying the late bride and others from Mokwa to Bida, and a commercial Nissan bus from Minna heading to Ogbomoso.”
The victims comprised eight female adults, four male adults, and one male child who lost their lives, while four female adults, one male adult, one male child, and one female child sustained injuries. Personal belongings of the victims, including five phones, an International passport, a NIN slip, three handbags, two traveling boxes, goods, and other effects, were handed over to the Police Outpost in Wuya.
Following proper identification, the corpses of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives, with the remaining four yet to be identified individuals deposited at the General Hospital in Kutigi, the headquarters of Lavun Local Government Area. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Bida.
