Christmas Day Tragedy: Nine Dead, Three Injured in Osun Auto Accident

On Monday, a fatal auto crash along the Ikirun-Offa expressway in Inisha, Osun State, claimed the lives of nine passengers and left three others injured. The tragedy unfolded when the driver of a truck, transporting a heavy load of bags of beans from Niger state to Edo state, lost control, veering off the road and into the bush.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the over-speeding truck became uncontrollable, resulting in the unfortunate accident. The heavily loaded bags of beans reportedly fell on the victims, making escape impossible for those inside the vehicle.

The vehicle, en route from Niger state to Edo state, had the accident at Oke-yidi area of Inisha on Christmas day. Of the 12 occupants, three miraculously survived and were rescued from the wreckage.

The deceased, unfortunately, lost their lives on the spot, while the survivors were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the crash occurred in the early hours of Monday at Yidi Junction in Inisa.

A Mitsubishi Canter with plate number MNA606SB NIGER, carrying bags of beans, was involved in the accident. Adeleke reported, “The crash resulted in the death of nine people out of 12.” The injured passengers were promptly evacuated to Orotunde Hospital Ikirun by FRSC officers, and the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In response to the incident, the vehicle involved and the bags of beans have been moved to Inisa Police Divisional headquarters in Odo-Otin local government area of the state. The community now grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event as authorities work to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
