Bomb Explosion in Abuja School Was Caused by Visitors From Katsina – Police
The Nigerian Police have confirmed a bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Kubwa, Abuja, which claimed two lives and injured two others. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the explosion occurred on Monday around 11 a.m.
Responding to a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, a police team, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and the Kubwa Area Commander, promptly secured the area and initiated an investigation. Victims were evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
Preliminary findings indicated that three men from Katsina visited the school’s proprietor, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, before the incident. Two of the men died while tampering with an improvised explosive device (IED) on the school’s veranda. The third man and a female trader sustained serious injuries and are now receiving medical care under police guard.
The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed that the explosion was caused by an IED, with remnants recovered from the scene. Mallam Adamu Ashimu is currently in police custody for questioning.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or objects to authorities. The police stressed the importance of avoiding contact with suspicious items and maintaining community vigilance to ensure Public safety.
