Boko Haram Attacks Military Base in Borno, Kills Soldier and Civilian Girlfriend

A Nigerian soldier and his civilian girlfriend were killed in an early morning attack by Boko Haram militants on a military base in Borno State. The attack took place at the Tango 19 post, located in the Mafa Local Government Area, home to the Nigerian Army’s 112 Battalion.

According to security sources, the insurgents launched the surprise assault on Monday, resulting in the death of one soldier. The gunmen also targeted a civilian woman who had reportedly been sneaked into the base the previous night by the soldier. The woman was identified as the soldier’s girlfriend.

“An incident happened early this morning to our troops at 112 battalion in Mafa. Boko Haram attacked our Tango 19 and killed one soldier. They also killed one girl the soldier secretly brought to the camp last night,” one source confirmed.

This attack is the latest in a series of violent insurgent activities in Nigeria’s North-East region, which has been embroiled in conflict with Boko Haram for nearly two decades. Efforts to reach Nigerian Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
