Bloodshed at Cross River Funeral as Man is Stabbed to Death During Mass
A funeral mass in Ikot Etim Bott Community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, turned into a scene of horror on Friday when a man identified as Gideon Gabriel Eyoh Nwosu was stabbed to death during the service.
The incident occurred around 9:10 AM while mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late Chief Maurice Ibok. Eyewitnesses described a moment of disbelief and panic as the suspect, identified as Efio Effiong, allegedly attacked Nwosu with a knife, stabbing him in the throat before fleeing the scene.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, but the brutal nature of the killing in such a sacred and solemn setting has shocked the community.
Police operatives from the Sting Unit Robot team responded swiftly to a distress call, evacuating the victim’s body, which has since been deposited at the State Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for Effiong, who remains at large. The tragic incident has left residents shaken as they struggle to comprehend the violence that disrupted what was meant to be a peaceful farewell.
