BH Attack: Brig. Gen. Braimoh Killed After Armoured Vehicle Failed to Start During Escape Attempt — Sources

Fresh details have emerged on the circumstances surrounding the death of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh, who was killed during a militant attack on a military base in north-east Nigeria.

Security sources cited in local reports said the senior officer attempted to withdraw from the scene as fighters stormed a military formation in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the sources, the commander tried to escape using an armoured vehicle as the assault intensified, but the vehicle reportedly failed to start at the critical moment.

He was subsequently caught in the attack and killed as the base came under sustained fire.

The attackers are believed to be linked to ISWAP, a faction associated with Boko Haram, which has continued operations in the north-east despite ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.

The raid reportedly involved heavy gunfire and explosives, leaving several soldiers dead or missing. The brigade imam was also said to be among those killed during the incident.

Some military sources also pointed to logistical challenges within certain formations, alleging issues with vehicle maintenance and fuel supply. These claims have not been independently verified.

The Nigerian Army has yet to issue a detailed official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.

Borno State remains one of the hardest-hit areas in the prolonged insurgency in Nigeria’s north-east, which has continued for over a decade, affecting communities across the region and displacing large populations.
