Benin: Internet Fraudster Shot by Colleagues for Refusing to Share N94 Million Scam Proceeds
A suspected internet fraudster was shot by his colleagues in Benin for allegedly refusing to remit N94 million believed to be proceeds from an online scam. The incident occurred on Sunday along Okhoro Road in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State. According to the Edo State Police Command, the victim, whose identity remains unknown, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
Sources say the victim was driving his SUV when he was approached by gunmen in another vehicle. The attackers reportedly ordered him out of his car before shooting him at close range. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, described the victim as an “Aza man,” a street term for someone who provides a bank account through which fraudsters channel the proceeds of their crimes.
The witness claimed that the shooting occurred after the victim failed to share a portion of the N94 million from an online scam with his syndicate members, despite having agreed to do so. Instead, the victim allegedly kept the entire amount for himself.
