Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde Block Wike at PDP Secretariat in Abuja Standoff

A tense confrontation unfolded on Tuesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde refused to leave the premises following the arrival of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The situation began when Senator Samuel Anyanwu and leaders aligned with Wike arrived at Wadata Plaza to hold a meeting. Anyanwu, speaking to reporters, dismissed the legitimacy of the faction that held a parallel convention in Ibadan over the weekend.

Their activities were interrupted when Bala Mohammed, Makinde, newly inaugurated National Chairman Tanimu Turaki, and members of the National Working Committee entered the NEC Hall. They announced that the party’s BoT and NEC meetings had been shifted to the next day. Turaki maintained that Anyanwu and his group no longer held recognised positions in the party.

As the governors prepared to leave, Wike drove into the secretariat, which had already been taken over by security operatives. His arrival changed the atmosphere immediately. Spotting his convoy, Bala Mohammed, Makinde, and Turaki halted their departure and remained inside the compound.

Security personnel attempted to clear the area, ordering all visitors—including journalists—to exit. The governors and party leaders refused, insisting that Wike must also be asked to leave before they would consider stepping out.
