Atiku’s Son Fires Back at Bauchi Governor’s Son Over 2027 Election Remarks

Mohammed Atiku-Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed recent remarks by Shamsu Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing him of peddling falsehoods about past political support. In a statement released Monday in Abuja, Mohammed stated that Governor Bala Mohammed never supported Atiku’s presidential campaigns in either the 2019 or 2023 elections.

He described Shamsu’s recent threat that his father would not back Atiku in 2027 as unnecessary, claiming the governor’s lack of support has always been clear. “The only difference now is that Shamsu has removed the mask and now we do not have to worry about the feigned impression of any support from his father,” he said.

Mohammed criticized Shamsu’s comments as arrogant and inflated in self-importance. He asserted that Atiku has never involved himself in Bala Mohammed’s political challenges, noting that any internal crisis within Bauchi politics had nothing to do with the former Vice President.

Reinforcing his claim, Mohammed said, “At no point has Shamsu’s father ever supported Atiku Abubakar in his political career.” He added that the governor’s covert opposition to Atiku during the 2023 elections remains vivid in the minds of Nigerians, referencing a recent revelation by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike about Governor Bala’s alleged role in sabotaging Atiku’s campaign.

He also took aim at the governor’s leadership of the PDP Governors Forum, saying Bala’s personal presidential ambition hampered his ability to effectively unite the party’s governors. He accused the Bauchi governor of secretly courting the current APC-led federal government.

Concluding his statement, Mohammed urged Shamsu to shift focus toward constructive political dialogue aimed at national development rather than “needless rantings.”
