Atiku Slams APC: Blames Economic Hardship on Ruling Party

In a scathing critique on Nigeria’s Democracy Day, former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), placed the blame for the country’s economic struggles squarely on the shoulders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku’s statement, released on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day, which falls on June 12 annually, lambasted the APC for failing to alleviate the economic hardships faced by Nigerians. He highlighted the pervasive difficulties citizens encounter in affording basic necessities amidst the ongoing economic challenges.

Moreover, Atiku did not spare the opposition parties from his criticism, lamenting their inability to form a united front capable of challenging the ruling APC. He underscored their failure to present a comprehensive governance plan that would resonate with the Nigerian populace.

Reflecting on the significance of June 12 as Democracy Day, Atiku emphasized the historical struggle for democracy in Nigeria, paying homage to notable figures such as Basorun MKO Abiola, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, and Alfred Rewane. He stressed the pivotal role of coalitions and alliances in ushering in Nigeria’s democratic dispensation, which has endured for a quarter of a century.

Atiku reiterated the indispensability of democracy as the preferred form of government, underscoring its intrinsic value in ensuring prosperity and liberty for all citizens. However, he lamented the current state of affairs, decrying the widespread poverty, violence, and insecurity that have plagued Nigeria over the past nine years, squarely attributing blame to the ruling APC.

In a stark admonition to opposition parties, Atiku warned that their failure to coalesce into a formidable coalition poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy. He urged them to recognize the urgency of forging alliances to effectively challenge the status quo and articulate a compelling vision for good governance that resonates with the Nigerian electorate.
