‘Atiku, El-Rufai, Kwankwaso Won’t Agree to Contest with Peter Obi in 2027’ – Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has asserted that notable political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rabiu Kwankwaso would not agree to vie for the presidency in 2027 with Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State.

Omokri made this assertion through a statement posted via his X handle on Wednesday, May 15.

The meeting between Peter Obi and political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Sule Lamido in Abuja, as reported by SK Blog, stirred discussions about 2027 elections.

Omokri expressed skepticism regarding any significant collaboration between Obi and prominent figures from northern Nigeria, citing concerns about Obi’s standing and reputation.

He emphasized the enduring memory of events such as the Deborah Samuel tragedy and raised questions about the potential for forgiveness and reconciliation, particularly within the context of religious sensitivities in Nigeria.

Omokri highlighted Obi’s age and his perceived reluctance to address past controversies, including the infamous “Yes Daddy” tape, as factors contributing to doubts about his acceptability as a presidential candidate in 2027.

He suggested that while some individuals might engage with Obi out of courtesy or strategic considerations, a consensus among northern political elites to align with him remains unlikely.

Omokri concluded by underscoring the significance of religious sentiments in political decision-making, particularly in regions like the North, where he argued that forgiveness might be harder to attain.
