Assistant Controller of Correctional Facility in Minna Abducted by Gunmen

Assistant Controller of Corrections at the Niger State Correctional Centre in Minna, Abdulrahamam Ibrahim Gelele, has been abducted by gunmen. The incident occurred on April 17, 2024, as confirmed by a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu.

The abduction happened along the Ilorin–Minna road when Gelele was returning from a vacation in Ilorin. Initially, the event was kept under wraps with hopes of a swift resolution, but more than a week later, the news has become widely known, creating concern among the officers and staff at the correctional facility.

According to Shuaibu, the kidnappers made contact with Gelele’s family once, but all communication has ceased since then, leaving everyone in suspense about his whereabouts and safety. The sudden silence has prompted the Nigerian Correctional Service to issue a plea for prayers for his safe return.

The Controller of Corrections for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Niger State, CC Mohammed Hamisu Isa, expressed concern over the situation and requested public support in the form of prayers, hoping that the officer would be released soon.

The secrecy surrounding the incident has given way to growing anxiety, and the abduction is now a topic of widespread discussion at the correctional facility’s headquarters. The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to Gelele’s safe return.
