Seven African nations have booked their places in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining the continent's strong performance in the tournament's expanded 48-team format.

Morocco, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Cabo Verde, Senegal and Ghana have all secured qualification for the knockout stage. Algeria and DR Congo remain in contention ahead of their final group matches on Sunday.

Morocco progressed as runners-up in Group C after a 4-2 win over Haiti. The Atlas Lions will face the Netherlands, winners of Group F, on June 29.

South Africa reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in the country's history. After opening their campaign with a defeat to co-hosts Mexico, Bafana Bafana recovered with a draw against Czechia and a victory over Korea Republic to finish second in Group A. They will take on Canada in the Round of 32 on June 28.

Côte d'Ivoire also advanced as Group E runners-up after victories over Ecuador and Curaçao. The Elephants will face the second-placed team from Group I on June 30.

Egypt finished second in Group G following a 1-1 draw with Iran in their final group game. The Pharaohs are set to meet Australia in Dallas.

Tournament debutants Cabo Verde continued their impressive campaign by finishing unbeaten in Group H, drawing against Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia. They now face defending champions Argentina in Miami.

Senegal secured qualification as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams after a 5-0 victory over Iraq in their final Group I fixture.

Ghana also progressed before completing their group campaign, with four points and favourable results elsewhere guaranteeing their place in the knockout rounds.

Algeria still have a chance to advance from Group J. They are level on three points with Austria, with Sunday's meeting between the two sides expected to decide the group's second automatic qualification spot.

DR Congo's hopes remain alive but depend on multiple results. The Leopards must defeat Uzbekistan and hope Portugal lose to Colombia to stand a chance of progressing from Group K.

Elsewhere, co-hosts Mexico and the United States have also qualified for the Round of 32, alongside Germany, Argentina, France, Norway, Colombia, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador and Sweden.

Tunisia are the only African side eliminated so far. They are joined by Haiti, Türkiye, Jordan, Panama, Qatar, Czechia and Curaçao.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition to feature 48 teams, with the top two teams from each of the 12 groups and the eight best third-placed teams advancing to the Round of 32.
